LET THE TREASURE HUNT BEGIN #roxysjournalofstitcheryvol4

The idea for this piece came from the girls, Rachel and Sarah,  over on their YouTube channels, and can be found using #roxysjournalofstitchery.  This one being volume 4.  They came up with the Treasure Hunt slowstitched project in June of 2023 and planned it out to last 6 months and provided us with a total of 12 prompts to work with. 

I began this project by laying out a mood board.  Basically a collage of fabrics and notions to tweak the creative juices and prepare me for the journey ahead.   I choose a  color pallette and a theme,  then went in search of a linen to use as my base. 

The linen I choose was a white silk damask cloth with beautiful blue tatting at each end.  The cloth measured 14.5" x 22".  I folded over the top to create a sleeve and stitched it down with a herringbone stitch.  I then decided to layout a few fabrics to create some background interest, as I wasn't sure at this point what the end result was going to be, and I had no idea what the prompts were at this point.  I tried not to dwell on the end results but instead just let the flow of my needle guide me on this journey.

Many of these prompts were included more than once throughout this piece and some of the inclusions represented more than one prompt but overall I am quite happy to have completed this piece using all the prompts as required and am delighted to say the mystery has been solved.

Christmas Past

Hello again,

A little bit of slow stitching took place back in December and a textile book emerged from my efforts.  This project made it's way down to my mother for Christmas where I hope she finds some joy from it.

It was inspired by a tutorial I watched on You Tube.  Anne Brooke was sharing the construction

of a slow stitch book, made from bits and bobs of fabrics and notions.  She has many little projects

she shares with her followers, so if you get a chance, pop on over to her channel and have a look.

So I took her idea and created this...

A fabric slow stitched textured book made with all sorts of fabrics, trims and notions.  Even some pieces of my mom's wedding gown as seen on the front cover.

The cover is edged with cotton fringe and crotchet trim and tied with a hand dyed silk ribbon.

The pages within are couched with fuzzy ivory yarn to add to the texture of the book, resulting in a very soft edging.

A pretty charm dangles from the spine.

And even the back adorns a collage of pretty fabric, notions, buttons, and lace motifs.

A Special Needlekeep

 Happy New Year friends.  

It's nice to be back in blog land again.  My apologies for being absent these many months.  

I have finished many projects, and started a few, as well, and will try and be more vigilant in sharing these with you all.

First up is a precious Needlekeep I created from a gorgeous kit I purchased from Georganne Miller Anderson, who you can find at Damsels in Lace on FB.  She sources beautiful vintage European laces for her kits and custom creates for her clients a lovely selection of pieces to create from. 

This kit comes beautifully wrapped with complete easy to follow instructions on how to assemble.

Each package labelled for easy access.

Full of more than enough embellishments to create with.

And this gorgeous cabochon button, with the most delicate boutique of Forget-me-not Flowers.  The prettiest button I have ever seen.

Usually, Georganne gives her Needlekeep kits a name, but I have named my own.  Recently, on December 24, 2020, I became a grandmother for the first time.  A sweet little girl, who I hope will take up the needle some day.
